Mixed rice, sometimes known as Economy rice, is one of the most economical choices for us when it comes to cheaper meals. Despite the ongoing inflation, a plate of mixed rice is still cheap and affordable.
But would you pay RM33 for mixed rice?
Recently, local YouTuber Dai Hee visited a restaurant in Ampang, where he initially assumed he wouldn’t need to fork out more than RM15 for a plate of mixed rice.
“How expensive can a plate of mixed rice be?”
Little did he know he had to pay more than double the price he had in mind, and he was shocked after the vendor told him the price. Dai Hee paid for his meal, and here’s what he had on his plate.
- Chicken cooked with yellow wine,
- Fried chicken,
- Some vegetables
Despite the price, Dai Hee seemed to enjoy the meal. Aside from the fried chicken being a little salty, Dai Hee praised the food there, saying the meat had its unique taste and was juicy.
“Yes, it’s expensive for a plate of mixed rice. But if you’re craving for a good plate of mixed rice, feel free to check this place out.”
“It IS expensive.”
For RM33, what did Malaysians think? In the comment section of his post, many netizens agreed that regardless of how good the food tasted, the price was baffling for just a plate of mixed rice.
“It’s still too expensive, regardless of how tasty it is. With that price, I can indulge myself in an unlimited buffet.”
“That’s why we don’t call it economy rice anymore,” said another user.
Another netizen who had been to the place said the restaurant is known for its high price.
“The meal for the rich. I had some minced meat and some vegetables, which cost me RM10++. But yes, I cannot deny how tasty it was.”
“Honestly, it’s expensive, but the place serves good food. It costs RM50 for 2 people,” shared another netizen.
Another user said, “Are you trying to promote this place? They’re known for their high prices.”
Fellow Malaysians, do you think having an RM33 mixed rice once in a blue moon is okay? With the good reviews in terms of taste, do you think the price is justifiable?
