While presenting Budget 2026 in Parliament today (10 October), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has agreed to hike up prices of alcohol to encourage Malaysians a healthier lifestyle.
Anwar explained that the government plans to raise the excise duty on liquor products by 10%, effective 1 November 2025.

The additional revenue from cigarettes and alcoholic beverages will be allocated to the Ministry of Health (MOH), including for the MOH Lung Health Initiative, as well as treatments for diabetes and heart disease.
“Prevention is better than cure. It is proposed that eligible vaccination expenses be included for individual income tax relief, covering all types of vaccines registered and approved by the Ministry of Health,” he said.
