During the presentation of the Budget 2024 initiative, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) shared that the government will continue to defend the people and prioritise services and projects that protect the welfare of the people, including improving our infrastructure.

In order to do this, the government has decided to invest in maintaining and upgrading street lights and traffic lights to prevent and reduce the rate of  road accidents.

“The government is committed to ensuring that action is taken within 24 hours of receiving a complaint about potholes on Federal roads. RM100 million has been prepared to maintain street lights including switching to a type of LED that can save electricity for up to 60%. RM50 million will also be provided for the same purpose through local council areas all over the country,”

“Finally, RM50 million will be provided to improve high accident areas by upgrading existing traffic lights to smart traffic lights on Federal roads, to help disperse traffic congestion,” he shared.

DSAI added that, as of August, more than 4,100 potholes in Federal roads was identified was repaired.
