Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat today announced several measures to improve the Halal industry in our country.
Anwar noted that the 19th Malaysia International Halal Showcase held last month recorded the sale of halal products of up to RM3 billion, more than 24% above the target. The showcase, the biggest halal expo in the world has matched 469 local companies to 231 international buyers from 44 countries.
In line with the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 which prescribes a target of the industry contributing to up to 11% of GDP by the year 2030. Accordingly, 9 financial institutions will offer specific programmes under Halal SMEs with access to special funds and capacity-building programmes.
Furthermore, the government will shorten the processing of Halal certificates from 51 to 30 days. Towards this end, the Halal Development Corporation (HDC) together with JAKIM will lead the measure to simply the method to process Halal certificates, especially for the export of Halal products.
