Singapore Airlines has confirmed that 1 person has died while at least 30 others were injured after the airline’s SQ321 flight operating from London Heathrow to Singapore on 20 May 2024 encountered severe turbulence en route.
Due to the turbulence, the aircraft had to divert to Bangkok, Thailand and made an emergency landing at the city’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
There was a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and Singapore Airlines offered its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
However, as of the time of writing, the airline hasn’t revealed the nationality of the victim.
The airline iterated that its current priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft.
Singapore Airlines is also working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.
