A BMW driver’s attempt to escape his bill worth RM38,000 left 3 people injured – a mechanic and 2 of his staff.
In a viral reposted Facebook post by Torn Ah, it is revealed that the BMW driver visited a workshop in Taman Setia Tropika, Johor Bahru where the driver asked to change the wheels, rims, and other accessories. The car was sent to the workshop on Saturday (September 7) and he agreed to the bill, which was fixed at RM38,000.
The driver returned to the workshop on Tuesday night (September 10) with another man and claimed that he wanted to test drive his car before making payment.
The mechanic, who is also the workshop owner, asked one of his staff to accompany the BMW driver and his friend, fearing that they might drive away without paying.
During the test drive, the customer stopped the car and complained of a knocking sound coming from the boot. The BMW driver then asked the staff who accompanied him to check the car boot.
When the staff opened the door, the BMW owner’s accomplice sprayed him with pepper spray, which caused him to suffer eye irritation.
The driver and his friend then fled the scene. The mechanic who witnessed the incident attempted to stop the suspect by clinging to the car’s side mirror but almost got hit at a traffic light junction when he fell and rolled on the ground. He suffered injuries on his left elbow.
Coincidentally, the incident was captured on the dashcam footage of another driver, which is also circulating on Facebook.
Another worker attempted to chase the duo on a motorcycle, but the BMW driver crashed into him, fracturing his right arm and injuring his knees.
In an official statement by PDRM in Johor, the police said the total loss of the theft was estimated at RM43,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Other charges include Section 324 for voluntarily causing harm with dangerous weapons and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
PDRM is on the hunt for the suspects, and the public with relevant information is urged to reach out to the police.
