Just recently, a manager working at one of the Big Four accounting firms in Hong Kong was shockingly found dead at home after he failed to show up at work.
According to Topick, the 31-year-old manager had been sick for a while as he was heard coughing out loud in the office. Due to his heavy workload, he refused to take sick leave and continued to soldier on until 30th April, the day when he suddenly stopped coming to work.
None of his colleagues knew what was happening and decided to pay him a visit at his place. Sadly, no one responded when they attempted to knock on the door, and the authorities were called in to break down the door as they feared something bad might have happened. The manager was shockingly found dead in his house and police have ruled out any criminal suspicion in his death.
As expected, this news has garnered a lot of traction on social media and forums. One of the employees revealed that the victim was overwhelmed with work prior to his death. The thought of applying for sick leave did occur to him, but he didn’t want to stall the work progress.
“The manager was handling 14 ‘jobs’ and a few of them were listed companies,” the employee said.
Another employee pointed out that after the incident, the company seemed to be keeping quiet and didn’t issue any statement to its internal staff. In fact, they were reminded by the management not to talk about this to their clients as it could scare them off.
When contacted by reporters, the company spokesperson said the company respects its employees’ privacy and will fully cooperate with the authorities in this case as well as committing to providing support to the deceased’s family and other workers.
Sometimes we are so dedicated in our work that we neglect our health. However, please remember that our body needs rest too to have an even more productive day.
Go home on time, guys. Work will never end. Our prayers and thoughts go to the victim’s family. RIP.
