We’ve probably heard of some really colourful tactics that robbers have employed just so they can gain access into our homes and rob us; some say that they spray symbols outside your house to target it, some say that they lure you away with phone calls. But now, a seemingly new way of robbing houses has come to light, according to this Facebook post from Polis Kedah.

In the Facebook post, which has recently gone viral over social media, claims that criminals are now using a brand new tactic to lure you out of your cars. How? By using tong sampah.

The post claims that this tactic usually involves two or more criminals who work together in a group, and one would usually move the tong sampah usually left around most neighbourhoods to block your gate before you get home.

Naturally, when you see the tong sampah block your gate when you come home, you’re going to get down and move it out of the way before you drive your car into your home to park lah, right?

So as you get out of your car the criminals will strike, and armed with parangs, demand that you surrender all your valuables to them.

In some cases, they will even pull you out of your own car and steal it too!

So how do you prevent yourself from falling victim to these crimes? The most essential way is to observe if you are being tailed while driving. If anybody is tailing your car suspiciously, drive to the nearest police station immediately. But if you’re already home and have yet to enter your gate, observe your surroundings and see if there are any suspicious vehicles waiting nearby with occupants in it.

Also, installing a dashcam will also help police, if you are able to obtain footage of these criminals in action. Don’t forget to jot down their number plates, as well as the make, model and colour of their cars too!

With all that is said and done, being aware of your surroundings is still key. So always be alert, and stay safe everyone!
