Malaysia has always been a multiracial country with citizens freely practising their own religious beliefs.
While there have been instances where some of certain faiths are not allowed to venture beyond their religions, there are times when we can still come together for the greater good.
Group CEO of Pertama Digital Berhad, Saify Akhtar took to his Twitter page to showcase how the Saidina Abu Bakar Mosque in Bangsar had invited a Sikh doctor to share methods to quit smoking.
He wrote, “More than a place of worship. Last Friday (April 7), the Saidina Abu Bakar Mosque invited a Sikh doctor to give a lecture inside the mosque. It was a well-timed topic on how Ramadhan is the best month to quit smoking and he offered to help,”
“Lectures in mosques are nothing out of the ordinary, but usually the topics lean on religious values. Last Friday’s lecture reminds me of the golden age of Islam, where mosques are also repurposed as a palace of knowledge. I encourage more mosques to do this. Invite more subject matter experts regardless of their religion. This is how we can attract people to go to mosques. A place of worship and knowledge.”
People have since also praised the mosque’s efforts to help educate the people.
