A manufacturing company for baked goods was fined RM60,000 by the Sessions Court in Klang for allegedly increasing the price of their potato buns last year.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the sentence was imposed by Judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar after Today Bakeries Products (Klang) Sdn Bhd, as the Person Sued (OKS), changed its plea to guilty at the re-mention of the case.

The OKS was represented by its director, 67-year-old Khu Kim Chai, who paid the fine after the proceedings.
They raised the price by 16 cents!
The company was charged with profiteering in selling potato bun products by increasing the selling price from RM3.35 to RM3.51. The action resulted in an increase in their net profit margin of RM0.16, from RM1.89 to RM2.05.
This offence was committed at the company in Taman Klang Utama on May 27, 2024.

The charge was made under Section 14(1) of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, read together with Section 3(b) of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Mechanism for Determining Unreasonable Profits) Regulations 2018, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM500,000 if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by a Prosecuting Officer of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Muhamad Saiful Saaidin.
