Traditional cakes or kuih remain a beloved favorite among Malaysians, perfect for dessert, breakfast, and even tea-time snacks. However, the process of making them can sometimes cause discomfort for kitchen workers due to the presence of smoke.
Kuih Bakar Asap Kelong cake shop in Terengganu has ingeniously addressed the issue, sparking amusement among netizens online.
In a TikTok video shared by user @ohmyganung, which has amassed over 300k views, a group of aunties is seen skillfully crafting traditional cakes while wearing full protective headgear.
In the video, the aunties can be seen wearing gas masks and thick gloves, showing their commitment to safety and hygiene.
Gas masks, referred to as “air-purifying respirators,” work by filtering or purifying chemical gases and potentially hazardous particles from the air as you breathe.
Kuih Bakar Asap Kelong specialise in a variety of traditional kuih, all baked using a classic wooden stove. Their cakes include kuih bakar, nganang, beke nyor, bahulu and more.
People on the internet quickly praised the aunties for their cool protective gear and applauded the safety measures employed by the aunties.
“You guys can consider a full-face respirator. However, good job, aunties!”
“Good job in making sure of the safety of your well-being.”
“Good job, aunties, for ensuring your safety.”
“Wearing a mask is a smart move. Well done for taking steps to safeguard your long-term health.”
