Cheese has certainly taken over social media – from eating ramen with cheese to short videos of melted cheese scraped off a cheese wheel onto a bed of potatoes.
So let’s get real, Malaysians love their cheese!
But instead of loving cheese for its wonderful stench or creamy goodness, there is another reason why cheese should be on the menu – it might help you live longer. That’s very gouda!
Featured in elite daily, a new study published in The Lancet has shown that cheese possesses properties that can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Elite daily writes,
“The researchers found that eating more than two servings a day of good ol’ dairy can majorly reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Although cheese has a slightly positive impact on heart health, milk and yoghurt are the real stars to give you a long life.”
Well isn’t that just brie–lliant?
Ok but seriously, another added benefit of savouring this dairy treat is the reduced risk of musculoskeletal diseases (MSD) – conditions that can affect your muscles, bones and joints.
According to a 2015 study published in the Calcified Tissue International medical journal, “Savouring a few servings a day of your favourite dairy treats can go a long way in keeping you safe from musculoskeletal diseases.”
And if you’re lactose intolerant, don’t be blue (geddit?) because the same study also suggests that cheese should no longer be a fear for lactose tolerant individuals.
“Lactose intolerant individuals may not need to completely eliminate dairy products from their diet, as both yoghurt and hard cheese are well tolerated.”
So the next time you order your burger and they ask if you want cheese, just say “brie-ng it on!”
