We are now in the last days of 2019 and 2020 is approaching at an alarming rate. As it is the end of the year, some countries are experiencing colder weather while places like Australia are experiencing scorching hot weather. In recent years, this has become more and more apparent as climate change is becoming worse.

On 28th December, at least 50 people passed away due to the cold in Bangladesh. The lowest temperature recorded was 4.5°C at a small town in Tetulia, a border town in Northern Bangladesh.

The cold weather has created an optimal situation for diseases to spread and this has caused at least 17 people dying of acute respiratory infection and 33 from diarrhoea caused by rotavirus all across Bangladesh from Nov 1st to Dec 28th.

That is not all. The hospitals are crowded with people suffering from all sorts of ailments related to the cold wave such as influenza, dehydration and pneumonia.

The people who are suffering the most are people with low income as they lack clothes and also the children and elderly who are susceptible to diseases such as pneumonia reported CBC.

A rickshaw puller expressed his concerns and frustration:

“I have no choice. I have to work regardless of the harsh weather to feed my family. Not a lot of people are going out. It is also getting difficult to pull the rickshaw as I feel like my body is frozen.”

Oh dear, the cold is everywhere while at the same time, Australia is enveloped in heat. We hope the weather conditions will improve soon!
