Do you know how to actually drink boba milk tea to get the most of the boba pearls and milk tea? Apparently, there’s a technique!
In 2020, the artist and director Ben Juwono shared his art on Twitter, with the caption: “How do you drink your boba milk tea?“. Do you poke your straw: 1) as close to the edge as possible, 2) at the centre, or 3) “idgaf, I just want to drink the boba tea”?
According to Ben, the correct answer should be 1, and he demonstrated the reason why with his art.
“The correct answer is 1 and 90% of you should rethink your technique,” he stated. This is because the maximum gap on the diagonally straw cut allows more boba to flow into the straw, while the other two have reduced gaps that stop the boba pearls from getting into the straw.
His tweet received more than 8k retweets and more than 6k likes, and was recently brought back to public attention by 9GAG. Netizens are fascinated by the art and the knowledge, while some jokingly said that they will still finish the boba pearls no matter how the straw is poked.
Regarding this, Ben jokingly posed a tweet on 19 May 2022, saying: “It’s been over two years and the boba discourse is still haunting me“. He also added that he is just “helping out those who want to optimize their methods”, and that one day he may be mostly known for this boba discourse on Twitter.
