Previously, we shared how the Apple iPhone 16 Series is banned from being sold in Indonesia until the tech giant fulfils a few requirements, including investing in the country and renewing its local content requirement certification, known as TKDN.

Well, Apple has since pledged to invest USD10 million or approximately RM44.6 million into the country in order to lift the ban, but seemingly to no avail as the iPhone 16 Series is still blocked from entering the country’s market.

Apple increases its investment offer into Indonesia tenfold to RM446 million

Following this, the tech giant has reportedly increased the offer tenfold, whereby Apple is now proposing a USD100 million or RM446 million investment into Indonesia within a 2-year period.

According to the Indonesia-based portal Kompas, the previous investment proposal included investing in a factory that manufactures accessories and components in Bandung, West Java.

The report added that the Ministry wanted Apple to change its investment plans to focus more on research and development of its smartphones in the country.

Indonesia’s Industry Ministry has yet to decide on the investment offer

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that following Apple’s initial proposal, the country’s Industry Ministry called for Apple senior company executives to meet Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta.

However, when they were in Jakarta, Apple senior executives were told that Agus wasn’t available and they had to meet with the Ministry’s director-general instead.

As for this latest offer, Indonesia’s Industry Ministry has yet to decide whether to accept it.
