Despite viral CCTV footage showing the UPSI student bus speeding, the driver claimed in his apology that the brakes had malfunctioned. However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke provided an update on June 14, revealing the findings from PUSPAKOM’s inspection.
The bus was in good condition, including the brakes and tyres.
PUSPAKOM also confirmed that the brake linings and brake drums on all axles were in good physical condition. The tyres also met the required tread thickness standards set by the Land Transport Authority, and the steering and suspension systems were deemed to be in overall good condition.

A physical inspection of the tyres revealed that the tread thickness was adequate and complied with the standards set by the Land Transport Authority. Additionally, the steering and suspension components were found to be in good overall condition.
In his statement, Anthony Loke also shared what might have caused the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students, factors unrelated to mechanical failure.
“The accident was most likely caused by human factors, road conditions and others.”

The bus driver, Mohd Amirul, has pleaded not guilty to charges of speeding and causing the deaths of the students. He has since been released on bail.
