All liquor factories nationwide have been ordered by the National Security Council (MKN) to close immediately during the first phase of the full Movement Control Order (FMCO) as they are not categorised as a basic necessity.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that permission has been given to food and beverage factories. However, this only includes essential foods, reported Berita Harian.
“As such, liquor factories are not included in the basic necessities category,” he said.
“In this regard, MKN has agreed that all liquor factories nationwide will be closed immediately.”
According to The Edge Markets, the list of economic sectors and services that are allowed to operate include:
- Food and beverage (F&B), including for animals
- Animal clinics and veterinary
- Water
- Energy
- Security and defence
- Waste management and public cleaning
- Land, air and water transport
- Docks, airports and transport related to cargo and commodities
- Communications, including media, telecommunications and internet services
- Banks, insurance, takaful and the capital markets
- Community credit, such as pawnshops
- E-commerce
- Fuel and lubricants
- Hotels for quarantine purposes only
- Construction and critical infrastructure works
- Forestry
