The 2023 Merdeka Day celebration in Putra Square, Putrajaya was one of the most noteworthy and ‘hype’ national day events in recent history, with over 100,000 people in attendance.

However, while the event was mostly positive and applauded by many, there are still things that can be further improved, especially in the cleanliness department.

In fact, according to environmental management company Alam Flora which cleaned up after the event, attendees littered irresponsibly and created approximately a whopping 20 tonnes of waste!

Taking to its TikTok account, Alam Flora shared photos and videos of how its staff cleaned up the mess throughout Putra Square and collected the litter that was thrown around on the ground.

As of the time of writing, the video has garnered over 403,000 views and more than 43,200 likes, with many commenters thanking the Alam Flora workers’ dedication to the job and expressing disappointment at attendees who created the waste.
