If you were raised in a household that believed discipline could be trained by the cane, you’d be familiar with the feeling of internal terror whenever one of your parents whipped out the cane to teach you a lesson “for your own good”. As kids, we would come up with every excuse thinkable to escape suffering the wrath of the rotan. We’ve certainly never heard of a kid volunteering to be whacked for this miserable punishment… at least, not until today.
Recently, 44-year-old mum and health coach, Jacelyn Tay, took to Instagram to share her shock with the world when her 8-year-old son, Zavier, asked her, “Mama, can you cane me?”
When the beauty and wellness guru asked her son why he would want such a thing, the precious child said,
“My friends are caned by their parents. You have never caned me or beaten me before. I want to grow up to be good. If you cane me, I can become a good person.”
He’s too good for this world! Jacelyn tried to explain to her pure son that there was no need for him to be punished:
“Zavier, you are already a very understanding boy and you are not naughty. I don’t have to cane you. You will grow up to be an excellent man.” But despite her attempt to reassure him, the adorable golden boy tearfully refuted:

“But mama, if you don’t cane me, I may become bad.”
That’s when Jacelyn understood how her young boy perceived the cane. She then explained to him: “I don’t believe in using fear to stop you from doing wrong. Caning is painful on the skin, but it is your heart and your thinking we need to work on. I prefer to make you understand why you shouldn’t behave wrongly and take responsibility for your own behaviour.”
“If you don’t do wrong only because you fear that I cane you, you will start doing wrong when the cane is not there. This is how I educate my child, by guiding and explaining. You will grow up to be fine.”

Even so, Zavier remained doubtful. He innocently asked his mother, “Really? is that enough?”
The mother gushed over her precious kid, “Yes, my son! The fact that you know you should be disciplined is definitely enough. I don’t have to raise my hand. Where on earth did you come from? My heart breaks for my eight-year-old child to ask for caning. You are so special. I love you my son”, Jacelyn said at the end of her post.
While some were surprised that her son actually believed caning was the only way to make a kid behave, many of Jacelyn’s followers found Zavier’s good-natured thoughts refreshingly sweet.
