Merdeka may be over but Malaysians are still in the mood for Independence Day and with Malaysia Day just 2 weeks away, the Merdeka vibes are still very much alive.
For a UK YouTuber who is based in Malaysia, Rhys William recently took to social media and recalled the years he spent in Malaysia for the past decade. Rhys was first in Malaysia on August 2012 and today, 11 years later, he has built a life here and even have a career and a YouTuber and a food reviewer. Rhys can be seen on his YouTube channel, Mat Salleh Cari Makan where he has visited multiple states in Malaysia for all the hidden gems and good food that you can possibly find.
In his Facebook post which was shared on Merdeka Day, Rhys shared an image of him when he was here for the 1st time a decade ago, and another recent image of him to celebrate the anniversary. Rhys posed with Jalur Gemilang in both pictures.
“A Mat Salleh who grew up in Malaysia,” Rhys said.
Rhys also shared an image of him in 2019, indicating that he gained some weight after eating a lot of good food in Malaysia.
“Malaysian food is so good, am I right?” Rhys laughed.
After he 1st visited Malaysia in 2012, Rhys decided to move here permanently a year later and in case you are not aware, Rhys speaks fluent Malay, just like the native! Thanks to all his years here, Rhys managed to learn a lot about the cultures in Malaysia and master the national language. His videos are mostly in Malay, which you can watch here on his YouTube channel.
In another FB post, Rhys also shared a throwback short clip that features multiple pictures of him spending time in Malaysia over the years. You can watch the clip here.
We’re glad that Rhys is able to call Malaysia home and hopefully, he’ll come up with more content about hidden good food that many Malaysians might not be aware of.
