Worrying Statistics Reveal That Malaysia Has The 4th Highest Suicide Rate in Southeast Asia

Suicide rates have been going up worldwide every year. Despite efforts to spread awareness and offer support, the increasing suicide rates highlight the pressing need for effective strategies to prevent suicide and help those who are vulnerable.

In a recent study shared by @seasia.stats, Malaysia has been reported to rank 4th in Southeast Asia for suicide rates per 100,000 people, based on statistics that compare countries’ suicide rates.

Malaysia secures 120th globally for suicide rates

According to data published by CEOWORLD Magazine, Malaysia has been ranked 4th in Southeast Asia and 120th globally, with a rate of 5.7 suicides per 100,000 people.

Singapore holds the highest suicide rate in Southeast Asia at 11.2 (54th globally), followed by Thailand in 2nd place (76th globally) at 8.8 and Vietnam coming in 3rd (92nd globally) at 7.5.

However, the Philippines has the lowest suicide rate in Southeast Asia at 2.2, placing it at 174th globally in terms of suicide rates.

“Suicide is a widespread issue”

Suicide impacts people worldwide, no matter their nationality, beliefs, or social status. Mental health issues and physical difficulties can increase vulnerability to feelings of despair, whether temporary or ongoing.

CEOWORLD Magazine is urging countries to address these factors to lower suicide rates, taking into account issues like depression, life satisfaction, academic achievement, health, finances, and economic circumstances.
