A wedding serves to show the union of a couple and 2 families to the people around them. However, it seems that there is always drama happening during one of these events.

Recently, a man in Jiangxi, China surnamed Song, posted a video on the Douyin platform sharing an incident that took place during a wedding he attended.

It is said that the man went to get a bowl of rice when the dishes were served and when he came back to his table, he saw that the aunties from the same table had taken out red plastic bags and tapaued the food. When he sat down, only 1 or 2 dishes remained.

According to a short interview on Douyin with the man, it is said that when he came back to the table, he was shocked to see that the dinner had already ended before he had a bite.

One of the aunties told the others that the man had not eaten yet but Song said that it was okay as he had lost all his appetite.

So in the end, he had to go home and eat instant noodles even when he gave the newlyweds an angpau. Song also observed that the other tables were just only beginning their feast whereas the one at his table had ended due to people’s greediness.

Many netizens commented that the food at weddings should only be taken away when everyone has finished eating.

“It’s not embarrassing to tapau but at least wait for everyone to finish their meal first,” said one netizen.

“We don’t have this practice in Sichuan. Even if the host asked us to tapau, I will feel too embarrassed to do it,” one netizen added.

“Aunties were not there to eat but to tapau,” quipped another netizen.

To take away food when it’s not finished is definitely good as it combats food wastage. However, we need to remember that there are other guests as well, so do so with the permission of the host.
