Videos of an emergency door being opened on a South Korean flight have been uploaded on different social media platforms and they have all gone viral.
In the videos, we can see multiple passengers on the plane bracing against the winds that entered the plane through the open emergency exit.
According to the Korea Herald, the flight took off from Jeju Island at 11:49 am and the incident took place before landing at Daegu Airport at 12:45 pm. The emergency door was opened when the plane was 200 metres above ground.
The door was open for about 10 minutes until the plane landed and many passengers were panicking and were screaming and crying.
This caused a total of nine out of 194 passengers to hyperventilate and they were sent to a hospital in Daegu after the plane had landed. No deaths or serious injuries were caused in this incident.
Asiana Airlines and the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported that a male passenger in his 30s “forcefully” pulled the emergency exit lever. However, the man said that he “accidentally” opened the door by touching the wrong lever.
This case will be handled by the Daegu police and if found guilty, the man may face up to 10 years of imprisonment.
