Many of us are undoubtedly stressed out thanks to the heavy amounts of work we get along with the current happenings in the world. One favourite Malaysian pastime that helps us forget all of our woes definitely has to be taking a trip to the good ol’ cinema.
Local cinemas are interesting places to visit since they offer such uniquely Malaysian experiences. One thing’s for sure, we definitely encounter very colourful characters that can definitely be found in any Malaysian cinema, like these listed below!
1.The kiasu movie fan
We’ve all come across this type of person in cinemas before. This person will rush to the cinema at the earliest possible time to get the best tickets on opening day.
They’re typically die-hard fans who would seriously consider giving up their left arm for a good seat for their favourite movies.
2. The hoodie + selipar gang
Being Malaysian, many of us can’t stand the slightest bit of cold.
So it’s not unusual for us to bring a warm hoodie along whenever we go out for a movie. In fact, it’s very common for us to! But despite the cold, Malaysians would rather freeze their toes off before they leave their slippers alone!
3. The kid who loves to buat bising
We all know that one family that has a kid who’s always running around or making noise in public. Pity the parents but these noisy kids would occasionally terrorise the cinema with their endless screaming, or running around the aisles.
4. The snack smugglers who make you hungry after whipping out their food
Seriously. Curse these people for smuggling their delicious McD sets, subways and potato chips. And end up making your tummy growl throughout the movie. T_T share please?
Of course, don’t be smuggling food in because once the ticket guy catches you and confiscates your food, you’ll just be left with despair.
5. The touchy touchy couples
These couples always try to be discreet but we all know the shuffles that’s going on under those jackets or blankets 😉
6. The ones that can never escape their ‘Malaysian timing’
We are known for our infamous Malaysian timing and it’s especially evident in cinemas. We’ve all experienced (or was the cause of) that moment when the movie’s already playing and then…
Sorry, some Malaysians just can’t escape the ‘Malaysian timing’ curse!
7. The loud aunties/uncles who ask their kids billions of questions throughout the movie
You know you’re subjected to a truly Malaysian experience at the cinema when you see an old auntie or uncle sitting down with their child and won’t stop asking them questions.
“What happened, ah?” “What the fella said just now?”
8. Foodies debating whether TGV or GSC has the best popcorn
Malaysia is the land of foodies, so it’s only natural that many of them begin to compare the popcorn served at Malaysia’s two most famous cinemas!
Unfortunately, many of us are still divided on the matter. We think it’s all a matter of personal preference! Though TGV does have some unique ones that you should try.
9. That one huge geng of friends
All of us have been part of that one huge group of friends, who sometimes fill up an entire row of seats at movie theatres. It’s pretty easy to spot them since they pretty much move around like,
These gangs can be loud and boisterous at times, but there’s always that one person in the group who’s sure to keep them in check with a quick “quiet, lah!”
We’ve all been part of that geng before.
It’s always fun to go out for a movie with a good gang of friends and looking out for the coolest new services cinemas have to offer is definitely part of that experience!
Besides the usual halls, did you know Malaysia offers amazing unique experiences to watch your favourite films, such as the IMAX, beanie, and our personal favourite the Indulge! Didn’t realise there’s so many types of halls right?
Their cinemas are family friendly so you can plan for your next family outing there!
TGV’s Indulge lets you enjoy gourmet food while watching the latest blockbuster!
