Recently, Times Higher Education (THE) released their latest list of the top 1,000 universities in the world for their 2018 World University Rankings.
Currently, this is the only global ranking that assesses research-focused universities based on these broad criteria; teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
This year, 8 of our very own universities have made it to the list, including three new additions. How awesome is that?
Check out the universities that made the cut to this prestigious list:
1. Universiti Malaya
Universiti Malaya made its first appearance on the list this year, placing it in one of the higher positions in the 351-400 ranking, making it part of the top 400 universities in the world.
Here’s how they fared on the 5 categories;
2. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
UTAR also made it to the list for the first time, landing in the 501-600 ranking, scoring highest in the “citations” category.
3. Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)
UNITEN is yet another new Malaysian addition to the list, landing in the 801-1000 ranking. Among the five categories, this university scored highest in the “Industry Income” category.
4. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

8. Universiti Teknologi Petronas
UTP makes its way to the THE’s list again remaining in the 601-800 ranking, with a considerable jump in their overall score thanks to their performance in the “Industry Income” category.
What an awesome achievement it is to have 8 of our local universities listed among the top 1,000 institutions in the world! I guess studying locally seems to be the better option after all!
