Kids in rural areas often face major difficulties when travelling to school and this is not something new. Some of them are forced to travel by boats and bridges or even walk really far just for an education. Sometimes, it can get really dangerous as well.
A six-year-old pre-school student died when she was crossing a suspension bridge at Kampung Porotawoi in Tongod, Sabah. She fell through a gap on the old bridge on Tuesday (July 23), reported New Straits Times.
Villagers managed to locate her body after searching for around 45 minutes after she fell at noon. The young girl was identified as Angelliena Juilan. They found her body afloat in the river, seven metres away from the old bridge.
Her school bag was still latched to her body. The victim’s father, Juilan Razali (age 31), was working when his wife told him about the heartbreaking incident. The father said that Angelliena’s friends witnessed her falling through the hole on the bridge and by the time he got to the area, his child was nowhere to be seen.
The victim’s family accepted her death as fate and did not blame anyone. Her father said that Angelliena and her friends would often walked on the bridge to get home after their pre-school classes.
Angelliena’s mother, Rosdianti Titi (age 28) said that she hurried to the river after discovering about what happened.
“When I arrived, Angelliena was already lifeless and they placed her in a boat. There was nothing that we could do even though we sent her to a clinic.
“The doctors confirmed she was already dead,” the victim’s mother said. Juilan and Rosdianti have two other kids, one of them is nine years old while the younger one is eight months old.
All thoughts and prayers go to her family and her friends. May Angelliena rests in peace and hopefully, the bridge gets repaired soon so that it’s safer.
