A 62-year-old man accused of brutally assaulting his 86-year-old neighbour with an iron rod was brought to court today for a seven-day remand, but his reaction to the cameras left many stunned.
The suspect arrived at the Magistrates’ Court at around 9:03 AM, escorted by police officers. When he noticed reporters filming him, he reportedly smiled and casually waved at the cameras.

Violent ambush left victim severely injured
According to China Press, the Magistrates’ Court approved a seven-day remand order starting today (24 August). Police are investigating the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon.
The alleged assault took place yesterday at a wooden housing area behind the market in Dato Keramat, Penang. The 86-year-old victim had reportedly just returned home after breakfast and was about to open his door when his 62-year-old neighbour allegedly rode a motorcycle into him.
The situation then escalated when the suspect allegedly grabbed an iron rod and repeatedly struck the elderly man. The victim suffered a fractured left leg and injuries to his left hand, leaving him lying on the ground in severe pain.

Family shielded victim until ambulance arrived
Police later arrested the suspect and seized an iron rod believed to have been used in the incident.
After learning that the elderly man had been attacked, his family rushed to the scene. Concerned that moving him could worsen his injuries, they left him lying where he had fallen while waiting for help.
With the scorching sun beating down, family members reportedly held up an umbrella to shield him from the heat until medical personnel arrived and provided initial treatment. He was subsequently taken by ambulance to Penang General Hospital, where he is reportedly scheduled to undergo surgery today for his injuries, according to Malaysia Gazette.

Suspect arrested at the scene
In another unexpected twist, the suspect allegedly did not flee after the attack. He remained in the area until police arrived and arrested him.
The case is still under investigation.
