With Merdeka just around the corner, many Malaysians have started getting into the Merdeka spirit, with some even putting their creativity to the test.
A woman recently took to Threads (@palapenin) to share an activity held at her workplace, where they organised a Merdeka-themed pantun (a form of poetry, made up of four lines with a specific rhyme pattern) competition.

According to her, with all the Merdeka spirit going around, she was curious to see if anyone would actually take part in the competition.
To her surprise, everyone at the office joined in, from the gardeners and janitors to the officers, all showing off their Merdeka spirit.
“For Merdeka month, my office held a Merdeka-themed pantun competition. I was curious to see if anyone would actually participate. Turns out, everyone at the office joined, from the gardeners and janitors to the officers,” her post read.
Security guard crowned Merdeka pantun champ
She went on to reveal that the security guard won the pantun competition, with his entry handwritten on a piece of paper and complete with an opening verse.
In the photo shared in the post, the security guard is seen grinning from ear to ear as he receives his prize.
“The security guard won! Even the officers lost to him. I saw the winner’s pantun and it was handwritten on a piece of paper, complete with an opening verse. He really deserved to be the champion.
“It’s so nice to see everyone getting into the Merdeka spirit and having fun with this year’s celebrations. Happy Merdeka!”

This wholesome moment is a lovely reminder that the Merdeka spirit can be found in all of us! Have a happy Merdeka, everyone! 🇲🇾
