The Simpsons cartoon has been around for decades, with the original episode dating back to December 1989. Over the years, the cartoon is not only known for its entertainment values but also for its eerily accurate “predictions.”

We’ll get back to the predictions but for now, let’s talk about how The Simpsons “foretold” a disaster in Malaysia. In a clip that recently went viral again, a newscaster, Kent Brockman was seen in his attempt to pronounce the name of Kuala Lumpur, before he was pushed away by the Bumblebee Man who immediately delivered the news.

“A powerful tidal wave in Kuala Lumpur has killed 120 people.”

The 12th episode of Season 5 was broadcast all the way back in February 1994, and this specific part of the episode has circulated online many, many times over the years. Previously, some Malaysians tied the “predictions” to the flash flood that hit Klang Valley in late 2021. This time, some theories are suggesting that the tidal wave is happening TODAY, 13 September 2023.

The episode, however, did not mention the specific date or year of the tidal wave.

Multiple clips about the tidal wave predictions are going viral on TikTok, and a clip by @aly_media specifically discussed the possibilities of the tidal wave hitting KL today. Over the decades, many audiences believe The Simpsons have predicted future events, such as Trump becoming the President of the USA, the pandemic hitting the world, the death of American professional basketball player, Kobe Bryant, and others.

“Nothing is going to happen”

It is unclear as to why the viral clips are specifically mentioning September 13 as the day of the tidal wave, but netizens, including Malaysian preachers, have warned others against believing the predictions because no one has the capacity to foretell future events.

“Nothing is going to happen today. Disaster will come at any time. If God wants it to happen today, it’ll happen today.”

“We shouldn’t be prepared for only 1 day. We have to be ready any time because we don’t know what fate has in store for us.”

“If we buy this, we’re going to live in anxiety. Let things go with the flow, and don’t over-complicate things.”

Fellow Malaysians, do you believe in disaster predictions? Do you think fiction is able to foretell the future?
