With the recent national statistics indicating that Malaysian males have now outnumbered females by 1 million, it seems there’s more competition for us guys to find that perfect soulmate.
But that doesn’t mean we have to go all out and fight each other, as the Malaysian Bro Code clearly prescribes that Member is more important than Awek! Instead, why don’t we celebrate our similarities and shared experiences like all these growing up moments that only us guys can relate to!
1. Kena tepung (or worse, TIANG) by your friends on your birthday
Source: nunawal.blogspot
We Malaysian guys have a lot of unique traditions for our friends when it comes to their birthdays. Birthday cake? Too mainstream! Instead, we use all the ingredients of a cake, mix them with something extra and throw it in their faces! Flour, eggs, syrup, you name it! We’ve all experienced it and of course, it’s better when you’re the giver rather than the receiver.
If you try to resist it and find safety, most of the time it’ll escalate to something worse; the dreaded TIANG.

There’s no running away from it. They always find creative ways to lead you into it. There’s no malice in it though, just harmless fun between friends. So, just enjoy the tepung!

2. When you scratched your father’s car after you got your ‘P’ licence

Yup, we’ve all been there. That fresh license in our pocket with a picture of our dashing smile and cool stylo hair, the JPJ-approved ‘P’ stickers neatly stuck in the front and back of your car, rear and side mirrors adjusted to that perfect angle; like a Professional Formula 1 driver, liao!

Then you move forward and hit your mom’s favourite vase. Apparently, you accidentally put the car in D rather than R. Crap!
And 6 years later, your father still brings this incident up every time you want to pinjam his car.
3. When you accidentally sent a message to the group chat instead of your girlfriend

Being a Mat Jiwang is not as easy as it sounds. You have to always be on top of your game as you never know how your girlfriend will react when you don’t like her Instagram picture 0.002 seconds after she posted it. Messaging is an even bigger responsibility as you not only have to reply within the 0.002-second time frame but it also has to be an essay! It’s literally 24/7 that you sometimes just leave your brain on auto-pilot when replying.
Then your worst nightmare happened. Instead of replying to Baby Cayunk Ucuk, you sent the message to your friends’ group chat. Oh, the horror!

To make things worse, you actually sent your selfie that was meant for your girlfriend to the group. Yikes!
You end up becoming the butt of the jokes for what seems like an eternity… And that selfie has been your group chat’s DP for the past 3 years. Oh well, at least your hair looks 10/10 in that pic!
4. When your friends came over and cerita to your parents all the naughty things you did

Admit it bro, we all live that double-life. In front of our parents, we emit some kind of heavenly glow. When we’re with our friends though, we release our inner taiko! You cover your tracks really carefully, just like some 007 spy so that your parents won’t know your deepest darkest secrets but then the two worlds’ collide and…

Your friends came over for your annual Open House and spilled the beans on all the naughty things you’ve ever done. All secrets they cerita liao! That time you told your parents you’ve got Koko but you actually went dating, that homework that you 100% copied from your friend and especially how you’re the school’s playboy with an awek in every class!
And by the way, you’re grounded for all eternity.
5. When you kantoi skipping tuition and went to the Cybercafe instead

Speaking of naughty things that you’ve done, remember the good old times when you played games on the PC, instead of on a tiny phone? Oh, the good old days of going to the Cybercafe with your friends and just hanging out. Playing Counter-Strike and losing to Bots, playing Dota and buying Preserverance on literally every hero because that’s all you know…good times!

But then you kantoi going to the Cybercafe instead of going to the tuition centre after school! Your father went and serbu you with that big rotan in hand and gave you a beating worse than any you’ve got in your noob gaming career.
Afterwards, you taubat for your gaming sins. You promised you’ll never go to the Cybercafe ever again! But of course, in a couple of weeks, you still went back there.

6. Getting a free haircut from the discipline teacher
Source: gunawanledang.blogspot
Who can forget the constant random spot-checks that they had in school? The discipline teacher checked basically everything from head to toe! Long fingernails? One rotan for you! Didn’t bring your school badge? Well, you have to buy another one for RM20.90 (adjusted for inflation). Bring your handphone to school? Well, now it’s the government’s property!
Worst of all? When you’ve already combed and gelled your hair to that perfect Beckham hairstyle but your discipline teacher got jealous and decides your hair is too long. So, you got the dreaded “free haircut”.
Your hair looks super funny afterwards that the only option is for you to go bald! BALD?! Oh, the agony…
