It’s no secret that women have a preference for men with beards, may it be just a wee bit of stubble or the full-on Gandalf gear, men with beards are said to be more committed because of their beards’ difficult maintenance.
To all the men out there who physically can’t grow a beard, I’m sorry, this is not for you.
So, lo and behold, here are some of many, many other benefits to growing a beard beside the women flocking to your side and the style factor.
Prevents Bacterial Infections
Having a nicely groomed beard equals to having an antibacterial barrier that can prevent Folliculitis and Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, which are common conditions where hair follicles are infected by fungi or bacteria. This can lead to red and inflamed itchy skin.
Your skin’s pores use your beard and stubble as natural protection. Hence, regularly shaving will eventually leave your pores vulnerable to various bacteria.
Acts As a Filtration Device
Those with asthma and allergies, this one is for you. Thick facial hair, along with an equally thick moustache can help trap annoying dust, pollen, and mold before it can find its way into your mouth and nose.
That said, do make sure to properly clean your beard with a comb and some beard oil that can get into follicles. A meticulous grooming routine is key.
May Lesson Gum Disease
As Datuk Dr Nor Ashikin Mokhtar wrote for The Star, a beard and a mustache can help prevent bacteria from entering the mouth, which leads to reducing the risks of gum disease.
Of course, you still need to brush your teeth, but a beard acts as additional protection that many lack.
Keeps Your Skin Moisturised
Exposed skin is vulnerable not only to cold, dry weather, as well as intense and scorching heat, but also sunburn which can also eventually lead to skin cancer. Shaving also exposes your pores which can lead to in-grown hairs and if not careful, shaving accidents!
Hair follicles help moisten skin with oil which can thicken skin growth and prevent breakages and flaky skin.
Prevents Acne
Though it’s unseen beneath the wall of hair that is a beard, there’s a huge chance that your skin under there is as perfect as a baby’s butt as facial follicle prevents acne.
Shaving not only causes dryness and cuts, but it can also spread pimple inducing germs and bacteria through the blade of the razor.
So hey, if you’re not growing a beard because you think maintaining a beard is hella hard, maybe one of these points will make you reconsider.
And don’t forget, beards are super sexy! ;p
