On Monday (14th October), a man from northern India was just about to bury his newborn girl, who had died a few minutes after birth, but as he was digging a grave for her, his spade hit something hard in the ground.
It was an earthen pot that had a voice coming from it. Retrieving the pot, Hitesh Sirohi found a newborn girl wrapped in cloth and crying inside, reported The Straits Times.
“At one point, I thought that my daughter had come alive. But the voice was actually coming from the pot,” Hitesh said.
Hitesh immediately brought the baby to the hospital while the hospital bills were paid for by a local politician.
According to CNN, the baby was only four days old and had been buried alive for about four to six hours before she was rescued. Doctors treating the girl, who weighs 2.4 pounds, said she may have been able to survive because her size meant she required less oxygen.
Medical superintendent who was in charge of her treatment said that the baby girl had various respiratory issues and required a ventilator.
“The baby had some infections and weighed only 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds),” he said, adding that she also had an infection and was underweight.
An investigation has been launched to locate her parents, who could be charged with attempted murder and abandoning a child.
“We are looking for her parents, and it is possible that they are involved in it,” police superintendent Abhinandan Singh said.
“Such an act is difficult without their involvement. We have deployed police teams, even in civil dress, to trace the suspects.”
Thank God the poor baby girl was found and given a second chance to live!
