Many job scam victims in Cambodia have been victims of torture, especially if they don’t perform well at “work”, and a Malaysian woman from Klang, who was one of the rescued victims, lived to tell the tale.
The 33-year-old Malaysian woman, Ong, was electrocuted daily before being rescued.

A 33-year-old Malaysian woman was rescued from a scam syndicate in Cambodia, where she was electrocuted dailyĀ
Ong was scheduled to return home today (24 October), with her flight expected to land at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 (KLIA2) at 6 PM, with a press conference also expected where she would be sharing the details of her experience.
Sadly, Ong was there after she was scammed by her employer in Port Klang, who told her the company would be relocating to China due to a financial crisis.
Ong was instructed to transit through Cambodia before going to China, but was sold to a human trafficking syndicate in that country

“The victim was sold to a syndicate on 1 September and electrocuted every day. The ‘Task Force’ and Cambodian police have raided the location twice, but failed to rescue her,” Secretary-General of the Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation (MHO), Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim said.
Hishamuddin said that the syndicate claimed that Ong was in debt, which was untrue. She was forced to sign debt documents as an excuse so that she could be detained and tortured. He added that the victim’s family initially intended to pay the ransom of RM120,000 after losing hope of help from the Cambodian authorities.
The video of a woman being electrocuted also circulated online.

“We managed to contact the victim and guide her on how to escape from the syndicate’s detention centre. A representative was sent to pick her up.”
Hishamuddin also said that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will handle the matter and will detain Ong for questioning if necessary. To date, MHO has successfully rescued over 400 Malaysians from various human trafficking operations in Cambodia, reported Berita Harian.

Over the years, many individuals of different nationalities, including Malaysians, have fallen victim to the job scam syndicate in Cambodia, with many of the cases involving job recommendations from trusted friends.
