Growing up in an Asian community would often mean that the measurement of success would be based on your achievements in your career. That being said, many youngsters nowadays are trying their very best to push their careers so that they could prove to their parents.
Just recently a man shared his thoughts about his work-life and how he feels sad that he isn’t doing as well as he wants.
In his post he said,
“I’m 32 this year and I earn about RM4,000 a month. I’ve been working for 10 years, and my salary could be less than those who have graduated.
The only thing that I can pinpoint in my life would be the fact that I didn’t study well back then. No matter how hard I work now, it just seems like I can never move forward anymore.”
He stated that he is currently feeling very stressed as one of his family members is ill and needs medical attention.
“When you’re older, your expenses would get higher and naturally you won’t be able to earn as much as you spend. I’m currently at this stage and I truly admire those who have enough money to settle down and get married”, he added.
He expressed that he feels really sad when he compares himself to other people but has to push through as his family needs him.
“I just hope the youngsters would study well if they don’t plan on starting a new business. If you don’t have a degree or a certificate, it’ll be hard to survive in this superficial world”, he said.
Many netizens empathised with his situation and here’s what some of them said:
“Don’t be so pessimistic, life is never easy to begin with. Some people can have everything at a young age, some people are average when they’re young but managed to be ‘successful’ when they’re older.
Don’t compare yourself to others, you’ll get addicted to it and slowly, you will look down on yourself and have tons of negative energy.
Just don’t give up and try your best, brother!”
“I’m 35 and my salary is close to RM4,000 but I think I will never get past RM4,000. If not for my part time job, I think I will be stuck with RM4,000 forever.”
“Having a degree or a certificate may not guarantee a high paying job. Some of the degree holders hold a lower salary than those who just graduated from their SPM. ”
Life hasn’t been easy on all of us but keep up the good work and don’t give up, fellow Malaysians. It’s tough out there but with the right mindset, you’ll be able to go through all challenges and hardships.
