Having children isn’t easy and it is a parental instinct to shelter them from danger as long as possible. Unfortunately for this Malaysian, it seems that she is struggling with her dad’s controlling nature, despite her being 32 years old.
In her post, she mentioned that she is currently 32 and has noticed that her dating life has been affected by her dad’s control issues.
“I’ve dated a few guys prior to this, and my dad has never let me stay over at my friend’s or my ex’s place. Whenever I have a new boyfriend, he would act as though he is okay with me dating and would ask me a lot of questions like his job, his salary and would even request to go over to his place to have dinner”, she said.
She shared that there was one time where she stayed at her ex’s house and it was a little over pass midnight, AND her dad drove over to her ex’s house and starting honking.
“I felt so embarrassed, and this isn’t the only thing he did. I lied to him saying that I have to go on a work trip with my colleague, but I was actually going away with my boyfriend. I don’t know how he found out, but he bought a ticket as well and when I saw him at the airport, I was in disbelieve!“, she added.
She mentioned that after the incident, she argued with her dad and her dad told her that even if she is 50, he will still stop her from going out with men alone. She then ended her post asking,
“how am I going to get married if he continues to control me like this?”
Many netizens were shocked to see her in this situation and here’s what some of them said:
“Your dad is just afraid of losing you. You should let him feel at peace and get your boyfriend to befriend your dad. It could be easier this way.”
“I think you should learn how to stand up for yourself and move out. Sometimes, the relationship can improve with some distance. Your dad just loves you too much.”
“Maybe you could try taking your dad to a psychologist and see if there’s something going on.”
Every parent would have a different way of parenting their child, however it’s important for parents and children to establish a healthy and effective way of communication.
