Recent news from Batu Ferringhi, Penang, says that a fire on the afternoon of July 28th wiped out famous hawker stalls near a resort. According to New Straits Times, the Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue station was alerted to the blaze, just before 2pm.
32 stalls in total were affected
The fire severely damaged 32 hawker stalls in total. Operations Commander Mohamad Rafizi Arafpin reported that the fire, which was extinguished in under 4 hours, also destroyed several motorcycles.
The stalls sustained about 80% damage, while the motorcycles were damaged by around 90%. Fortunately, despite the extensive damage, no one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, a local who witnessed the event reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ.
According to their account, it is alleged that the fire started because a stall operator had left the fuel cap open while running a generator.
“My friend and I were in the area when it happened. He noticed the fire first and pointed it out to me. Out of curiosity, we asked the people who were there when the fire broke out what happened. A witness told us that one of the shop owners had left a generator running with the fuel cap open,” the local witness explained.
We’re relieved to hear that no one was injured in the incident. However, stay tuned for more updates!
