There’s a saying that mentions how life isn’t a competition and you don’t need to have everything by a certain age. But unfortunately, in this world that we are living in, it’s becoming increasingly hard to “just follow your own timeline” as everyone around you may seem like they’re doing better than you.
Just recently, 22-year-old Malaysian shared his dilemma onto a Twitter page saying,
“I’m 22 years old now and I just started working about 6-7 months ago. Thank God, I was able to get out of hardship and my pay is quite decent. “
He then explained that he is feeling a little lost in life and would like some guidance. He mentioned that he is in a dilemma as he isn’t sure if he should buy a car or a house first.
“I’m 22 and I have this dilemma, I think many youngsters like us would also need advice from others”, he added.
This tweet has since garnered over 988 retweets and over 200 comments. Many netizens were offering some useful tips and here’s what some of them said:
“If you want to save up for a house and your monthly expenses, I suggest you just by a motorbike (if you’re single), or buy a secondhand car that still has quality. You can also consider buying a new but cheaper car like Axia. You just started work, and it hasn’t even been a year yet. You should relax first.”
“For people who just started out, you should buy a car or a motorbike first. That’s something you need now, but if you already have a car then you can just buy a house. The most important part is knowing your capabilities. Don’t just blindly follow what other people do and buy a house for the sake of buying a house.”
“I don’t think you should buy anything at the moment, you’re too young. You should save up and then settle your school loans.”
“If you’re single and don’t need a car yet, I would suggest you buy a motorbike as your mode of transportation. Then you should open an ASB account.”
“I would suggest you buy a car first, it’s easier for you to commute around. But if you’re able to buy a house and already have a car on your own, you should just go on. The choice is in your hands.”
No matter how good the advice is, here’s a gentle reminder that the advises given are only for reference and not an absolute guide. Always make sure to check in with yourself and make sure or your own capabilities.
