Previously, we shared how the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan) rescued an 80kg female Malayan tiger from a poacher’s trap in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
In the rescue operation, brave men and women from the Wildlife Conservation Division, Perhilitan Headquarters Kuala Lumpur, Perhilitan Kelantan and National Wildlife Rescue Centre and the National Tiger Conservation Centre all band together to save the endangered animal.
The whole process is not as simple as it sounds, as though injured, the female Malayan tiger is still a fierce and dangerous creature.
Furthermore, the operation was also made more challenging due to the geographical conditions of the area, whereby the poacher’s trap was located in a steep area on the bank of the river at the NTT Metro Farm in Gua Musang’s Pos Blau.
It was also made worse by heavy rain and due to the location, the rescue party had to use a motorboat to inspect the animal’s condition.
Recently, Perhilitan showcased just how gruelling and intense the rescue operation was in a 2-minute-17-second video highlight of the 2-day operation.
These include the preparation process, using tranquillisers on the animal, treating its wounds and moving it into the prepared transport vehicle.
You can watch the whole video here:
The female Malayan tiger was found trapped by the poacher’s snare on the front left ankle which the rescue team removed.
The whole operation involved 21 personnel and transporting the tiger from the poacher’s trap to the vehicle with physical and blood tests in between took approximately 3 hours.
Thanks to the selfless efforts of the team, the female tiger is now safe and sound at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre.
Awesome! Share your thoughts regarding the operation with us in the comments and don’t forget to show your gratitude to the brave and women of the rescue operation too!
