The family of a 19-year-old national weightlifting champion in India has taken on to social media, seeking help from fellow netizens to raise funds for an urgent heart transplant.

The son of a small mobile recharge shop owner, Shubham Agarwal, was diagnosed with heart failure after suffering a heart attack days after his grandmother’s death.

He was rushed to the hospital however his condition has gotten worse ever since.

He was put on ventilator support as well as undergoing a bypass. His kidneys too started to fail on him. According to his family, he is stable for now but his heart is 80% damaged.

Shubham is bedridden and can only speak in whispers. His family has very little income and has no savings to fall back on. Hence, his parents are seeking help from the public to save their son’s life.

Krishna and Archana Agarwal, the parents of Shubham, started a fundraiser to raise money for their son’s heart transplant.

“All our hopes of breaking out of poverty, are pinned on our son. We don’t know why this is happening to him. He is only 19 and has his entire life ahead of him. He is yet to complete his studies and all he dreams of is representing his country at a global championship of weightlifting,” said Krishna and Archana Agarwal.

“It is not fair that we as parents have to stand and see our son struggling to breathe, every day. We are losing him bit by bit. Help us wake up from this nightmare. We fear that our helplessness and lack of funds will cost us our dear son’s life,” they added on.

Shubham also took on to social media explaining that the only thing that can save his life is a heart transplant that costs Rs 50 Lakhs (around RM274,930). The hospital needs them to deposit a guaranteed amount of at least Rs 15 Lakhs (around RM82,480) to start the treatment.

“With a daily income of hardly Rs 300 (RM16.50), my parents can barely do anything. It is my humble request to you to help us in this moment of crisis. Please contribute whatever you can to save my life,” Shubham said.

Shubhams parents also added on to say “If 5,000 people contribute at least Rs 1,000 (RM55) each, the goal will be reached and our son’s life will be saved.”

“Please don’t ignore these desperate cries of two helpless parents. Stand by us today to help us save our son’s life,” they added on.

A little goes a long way. If you’re in a financially stable condition to help save a life, please do what you can here.
