The Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) caught a 19-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in a hotel room in Mersing, Johor, on suspicion of ‘Khalwat’.
When the woman finally opened the door, the officers found her in a t-shirt and long pants, while the man was sound asleep and wasn’t aware of the officers’ presence.
The man had only his shorts on when he was found asleep, and the officers had to wake him up during the raid. According to a Facebook post by the JAINJ enforcement division, the pair is still single and is working at the same place.
“Maybe he was extremely tired, which explained why he didn’t notice we were there.”
“We had to tell him to get up and wash his face because we wanted him to know he wasn’t dreaming,” the spokesperson remarked in the viral post.

After questioning, the officers said that the pair decided to rent hotel rooms as it was raining late at night, and claimed that their house was far from their workplace. The pair also said that they finished work late at night as the shop had many customers.
The man, however, came to her room on the purpose of charging his phone after using his device for TikTok for a long time.
“While waiting for his phone to be charged, he fell asleep.”

The pair, however, was detained by the religious department as they were not married to each other.
If found guilty, the pair may face a jail term of not more than 2 years and a fine of not more than RM3,000.
