Serious cases of Adverse Effects of Immunisation (AEFI) have been reported among inmates at the Kajang Prison following their Covid-19 vaccination program.

A letter from Kajang Prison stated that there have been 18 serious adverse events, including 2 deaths among the inmates who had taken Covid-19 vaccines including Pfizer, Sinovac and Cansino.

Berita Harian shared that the mentioned adverse effects involve heart paralysis and weakness of the body.

“The investigation report will be presented to be evaluated by the Covid-19 Vaccine Special Pharmaconvigilance Committee (JFK) to confirm the causality or relationship between the vaccine and the reported adverse effects.”

“The Ministry of Health (MoH) through NPRA continuously monitors the safety of the use of all vaccines, including Covid-19 vaccines, through the monitoring of AEFI reports. All the reports stated in the letter have been received by NPRA.” she said in a statement via MoH.

An AEFI is any untoward medical occurrence which follows immunisation and which does not necessarily have a causal relationship with the usage of the vaccine. The adverse event may be any unfavourable or unintended sign, abnormal laboratory finding, symptom or disease, as shared by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Stay tuned for more updates on this matter.
