A 17-year-old student died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a metal railing while attempting to flee from police along Jalan Pasar on Friday night (13 March).
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at around 10 PM due to severe head injuries.

The youths were reportedly afraid of police checks
Kampar District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said initial investigations revealed that the teenager was riding with four friends, each on separate motorcycles, when they spotted a Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) team and attempted to escape, splitting up in the process.
Police reportedly instructed the group to stop, but they accelerated away.
“Officers pursued them from approximately 150 metres behind with emergency lights activated. The victim was seen riding against traffic during the escape,” he said, as reported by Sinar Harian.
According to Nazri, the teenager lost control of his Yamaha 135LC motorcycle after hitting a bump near the market, causing him to crash into a metal stair railing by a drainage area. The motorcycle sustained severe damage to its front section.
Further checks revealed that the teenager did not have a valid driving licence and that the motorcycle he was riding was believed to have been modified.

“The group apparently fled because they feared police action,” Nazri added.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have reminded the public of the dangers of evading law enforcement, particularly when riding modified vehicles at high speeds, stressing that such actions can result in fatal accidents.
In a separate report by China Press, Nazri refuted claims circulating online that police had chased the teenager at close range, stating that the officers were wearing body cameras at the time. He added that police have also requested CCTV footage from Kampar Member of Parliament Chong Zhe Min.
