When news of SS15’s iconic Asia Café closing down began circulating, netizens were just plain heartbroken.
I mean, Asia Café has been the hot spot for Subang Jaya’s budak-budak since it was built in 2003. The 24-hour establishment was the place to go to after a night of studying (lol), drinking or gaming to fix the munchies.
So of course, there will be loads of things we’ll miss after the femes AC is gone. Check out this list and see if you’ll miss them too!
1. The deliciously economical chap fan
Every student who’s on a budget would definitely swear by this tasty yet cheap alternative to all the expensive cafes around SS15. Where will Uncle sell his chap fan after this?
2. The mouth-watering ikan pari bakar and kerang bakar
Having a group of friends to share these barbecued seafood is simply the best!
3. The fresh fruit guy who says, “fles fluit?”
This guy will go around to every table and ask us if we want fresh fruits in his broken English. Where else can we see such a dedicated fruit seller like this?
4. The haram-licious pork dumplings and Taiwanese noodles
The amazing thing about this food court is the variety of both halal and non-halal food. For those craving a little bit of haram-ness, the pork dumpling and spicy noodles are can’t-go-wrong favourites!
5. Snacking on these sinful deep-fried mushrooms
Deep fried foods aren’t good for our health but they definitely taste good on our tongues. The burst of juices and oil from the freshly-fried mushrooms in our mouth is just too good to be true.
Even the chilli sauce is somewhat unique yet blends perfectly well with the shrooms.
6. NASI LEMAK!!!
This isn’t some pretentious nasi lemak burger, sushi, cake or whatever. This is the old school delicious nasi lemak and ayam goreng that has got people coming back over and over again.
7. Playing pool with the gang
Sometimes, all we wanted was just to hang out with friends doing some fun and light activity together, and what better game to play than pool, right?
8. Enjoying the breeze while chilling on the deck
Asia Café is so huge that they have another section of tables and chairs laid out just to give us a more atas feel.
Many people enjoy chilling on this deck as the open air and wooden structure make the place feel like a completely different spot.
9. Devouring a whole bowl of kolok mee
It’s hard to find a good bowl of kolok mee in the Klang Valley. Though the Sarawakian dish served here may not be the best, it definitely fixes anyone’s craving!
10. Sharing a HUGE glass of juice with friends
One of the highlights of Asia Café is of course their extremely large glasses of drinks. Cheapskate students tend to order one big jug and share it among 4 or 5 people. Save money mah…
11. Screaming at the screen while playing DOTA 2 in the cyber cafe
This is probably every student’s favourite CC within SS15 because it is always packed! Screams of anger, frustration and stress can often be heard emitting from this establishment.
12. The aromatic deep-fried chicken and rice from Uncle Bob
Fun fact: The famous Uncle Bob fried chicken in every pasar malam around the Klang Valley started from this humble stall in Asia Café.
Uncle Bob first sold his deep-fried chicken with rice and veggies like the typical chicken rice. However, many people enjoyed eating just the chicken and so begun the Uncle Bob fried chicken franchise.
13. The constant fear of being pooped on by birds
There are just so many birds around Asia Café thanks to the huge trees surrounding the area. Many people, unfortunately, have had birds poop on them, their food and their drink. Ewww!
14. That mini heart attack when they pop a firecracker to scare the birds away at 7pm
To get rid of the pesky birds so that people won’t get sh*t on, one of the Asia Café workers would light up a firecracker daily at around dusk. The sudden and loud bang would often scare all the birds away.
15. A piping-hot bowl of yee mee to warm the soul
What’s better than a hot clapypot filled with heavenly brown noodles, meat and veggies, and of course the frothy egg-soup drowning everything?
16. Watching football matches on the big projector screen
2018’s FIFA World Cup will never be the same because we can’t watch it at Asia Café anymore.
Every time there’s a massive football tournament such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, UEFA Championships or Premier Leagues, Asia Café would be jam-packed with fans enjoying the games.
After Asia Café is no longer there, where else would students go to for lunch, or hang out at night after class? Yes, there are too many awesome food for us to cover but you get the point! This is just sad!!! Where else is as iconic as SS15’s Asia Café filled with memories of youthful recklessness?
Where will everyone lepak anymore?! *Sobs uncontrollably*
