To every period of darkness, there will always be glimmers of hope. Malaysians who have been stranded in the very centre of the novel coronavirus outbreak, Wuhan, will no doubt have felt an incredible relief when they landed back home just this morning at around 5.57 am today (4th January 2020) at KLIA2, as reported by Berita Harian.

AirAsia flight AK8264 was earmarked to send over 500,000 gloves to Wuhan, China, while simultaneously bringing over 133 Malaysians back home into our shores.

The 133 on board the aircraft included 107 Malaysian citizens that were trapped during the lockdown in Wuhan, 12 crewmembers, eight humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission personnel and six officers from the Malaysian embassy in Beijing, according to The Star.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health has said that all passengers who were brought back from Wuhan, China, which includes the flight crew, will undergo a mandatory health screening at the air disaster unit (ADU) at KLIA. Those detected with symptoms of the novel coronavirus will immediately be isolated, while those who do not exhibit immediate symptoms will be sent to a monitoring centre.

Regardless of which, we are happy to hear that these fellow Malaysians managed to find their way back home! Here’s to hoping that they are all healthy and have not been affected by the crisis in Wuhan. Welcome back!
