If you’ve ever lived–or are currently living–in a condo, you’re probably grateful for a few things, like having your own private gym and pool. However, although we have some pretty cool facilities, there’re a ton of struggles that come with living in a condo as well. Here’re just some of the struggles you might relate to. Some.
1. When you just went shopping and you have to lug 20 shopping bags from your car to the lift, and then from the lift to your unit
Sometimes, you even have to take two trips just to get everything out of the car.
2. Speed walking to the lift because another neighbour just parked and you don’t want to get stuck in the same lift
Introvert problems.
3. The painful moment you DO bump into neighbours in the lift and you have to endure either awkward silences or 1,029,933 kepoh questions
Yes, you either bump into neighbours you barely know, or neighbours who think they know you very well and love asking you questions, “wah, so late already where are you going?” or “Working already ah? Working where? Is the pay good?”.
4. When you’re in a rush but the lift takes 10 years to reach you
And for some reason, this only ever happens when you’re in a rush.
5. When you have guests over but don’t have enough visitor’s parking lots in your condo
At least if you’re living in a landed property, your friends can park by the side of the road. The same thing applies when you visit friends living in condos, but to park by the side of the road outside the condo’s compound would often mean a pretty far walk.
6. When friends visit you for the first time and you have to meet them downstairs because they’ll probably get lost looking for your unit
Either that or they’ll enter a completely different condo block.
7. When you get into a huge fight with your sibling but the both of you share the same room
Talk about a silent night.
8. When your friends talk about having a party on their front porch/backyard and all you have is a balcony that fits two big potted plants
Or three at most.
9. When you DO hold a party in your house and your front gate looks like this…
And this isn’t even half your guests.
10. When you live in those four or five storey flats that come with NO ELEVATORS
Post shopping or holiday trips prove to be quite a task especially if you live on the top floor.
11. When you come home late and you need to be all ninja-like because your room is right next to your parents’ room
Most condos are designed in such a way that all the rooms are either located side-by-side or opposite one another. This means that when you come home at 3AM, your parents will most probably hear you.
12. When the bathrooms are always occupied because you live in a 3R2B condo with four other people
It should be against the law to have less than three bathrooms in a home. If emergency how?!
13. When you want to open the windows and curtains for some fresh air but then you see your opposite neighbour from their room window
And you immediately decide you don’t really need fresh air… or sunlight. Privacy more important.
Well, that’s it for today, but of course there are still hundreds of other struggles we’ve yet to highlight; but at the end of the day, at least we have a roof over our heads! If you know of any other condo-related struggles, share them with us in the comments!
14. When… wait for it… the elevator breaks down with you in it!!!
NO condo experience is the same without going through this torment.
Additionally, when the elevators do break down without you in it, say hello to leg day. You really start to wonder why your parents even chose such a high level to stay on!
