Looks like it’s going to be a tough road ahead for Mat Rempits now!

A huge group of 110 illegal motorcycle racers were stopped by police at around 1 in the morning on Sunday (2nd April) during a roadblock at Taman SPPK, Pasir Puteh.

The Rempits were ordered by police to push their bikes all the way to the Ipoh district traffic police headquarters, which was about 5 kilometres away, according to a report by The Star.

The roadblock was implemented in an effort to put an end to illegal racing in the area.

“We seized 116 motorcycles and issued 252 summonses for various offences, including illegal modification to their vehicles, running the red light, dark helmet visor, failure to show the licence and expired licence,” said Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong after a policing programme in the area.

In an effort to curb the growing problem of illegal racing, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak approved RM30 million to be spent on a race track for Mat Rempits earlier this year in February. This race track will reportedly be built in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Hopefully, this recent crackdown on Mat Rempits will scare illegal racers into following the law from now on!
