Many of us used to spend our nights hitting the clubs during the weekend or even during the weeknights when we were young, wild and free. Sadly, many of those venues that have seen us through our rebellious youth have now closed down to make way for newer and better ones.
Although there are so many hot and happening drinking spots opening up around the Klang Valley, we can’t help but feel nostalgic about those good old places.
So, here are some of those clubs that all of you clubbing kakis definitely went dancing all night long at before!
1. Euphoria by Ministry of Sound (MOS) at Sunway Pyramid
One of the things we hated most after a night out is that clinging, cigarette smoke smell that won’t leave your hair unless you give it a good wash and truth be told, that’s the last thing we want to do once we arrive home because crashing on our bed is probably priority numero uno. Ministry of Sound, Euphoria was one of our favourite places to go to because they did not allow smoking indoors so your hair would still smell great after partying. Yasss!
The club opened back in July 2008 to much fanfare with just a short walk from Sunway Pyramid to this cool club but it has sadly closed down. Guess we’ll just have to take a good bath after those nights out now!
2. Mist and Milk Club at Bangsar Avenue
These two sister clubs located next to each other used to be the place to be if you wanted to party it up in Bangsar with the cool crowd. However, both clubs are vastly different from each other as Milk used to cater more towards the fun, younger crowd while Mist is undoubtedly the cooler and more stylish big sister. Back to clubbing in other areas now!
3. G Six and Vertigo at Gardens, Mid Valley City
We often go to Mid Valley Megamall just to hang out or shop, so when these two clubs opened in the mall, naturally everyone was excited. Both of them were located on the sixth floor of The Gardens and used to attract different crowds, which would cause these venues to be packed to the brim in their heyday. Ah, those were the days!
4. Opera at Sunway Pyramid
The Opera used to be a really cool place to be as it was located right outside Sunway Pyramid and looks just like it is made out of glass alone. That’s not surprising seeing as it was inspired by La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy and it was usually lit up in red and purple lights. Consisting of three separate rooms and concepts, it used to feature all sorts of awesome performances to add to your clubbing experience. Can pretend to be artsy!
5. Poppy Collection in Kuala Lumpur
The road where Poppy Collection used to be located was full of watering holes but Poppy stood out from the rest by being a mega nightclub that had four bars under one roof. They were one of the most happening places to be and then they closed in 2011 for refurbishment. Remember the legendary pool inside Mandalay Lounge? They reopened again in late 2012 but it looks like they could not keep up and eventually closed down.
6. Butter Factory in Kuala Lumpur
The Butter Factory was imported from Singapore and at first, they were really making their mark in Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife when they opened in 2012. However, the brand decided to terminate their franchise agreement due to “contractual breaches” in 2014 and that particular spot in Jalan Kia Peng has changed into a few different nightclubs since.
7. Coco Banana at Sunway Pyramid
There were quite a lot of clubs located at Sunway Pyramid last time (in case you didn’t realise), and one of the most popular ones is Coco Banana. They even bought over another famous club, Bar Celona, back in 2011 as an expansion but unfortunately, they have since closed down. Oh well, we had good memories there nonetheless!
8. Ruums in Kuala Lumpur
Located at the KL Life Centre complex, this huge dance club used to be a favourite hangout spot among college students back in the day. Their spacious dance floor had everyone dancing their shoes off while they usually had regular dance competitions held where the winner would be given cash and prizes. We’re sure you have seen some before!
9. @Maison in Kuala Lumpur
What used to be the Asian Heritage Row has now been transformed into The Row and together with it, one of our favourite clubs was also closed down. Remember their distinctive brick walls? It used to be known as Maison and was one of the most happening clubs back in 2005 to 2008. Following a refurbishment, they changed their name to @Maison but unfortunately, everything went downhill from there.
10. Rootz Club in Kuala Lumpur
This club that’s located at the rooftop of Lot 10 mall in KL since 2009 was stunning and it was decked out in luxurious decor reminiscent of Tsarist Russian palaces. This place attracted large crowds thanks to its regular themed parties as well as really creative cocktails too!
11. Zouk in Kuala Lumpur
Of course, the new and improved Zouk at TREC, Jalan Tun Razak is way bigger and better than the old one at Jalan Ampang but we still can’t help feeling sentimental when it closed down. Many of us spent countless of good nights there making so much memories during its 11-year stay along the road. No matter, now let’s continue partying at their new place in TREC!
So, how many of these have you been to? PSA: Remember to drink responsibly!
