A total of 35 individuals among MPs and their officials have tested positive for Covid-19. This sudden development is a surprise ahead of the opening day of the special session of Parliament, this Monday.
It was reported that several MPs have been infected with the virus, including the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Ketereh) and Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (Bachok).
However, Annuar Musa and Nik Abduh has since denied that they are Covid-19 positive but sources close to Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that the Bagan MP has been infected with Covid-19 category one and is asymptomatic.
Unfortunately according to Utusan Malaysia, there are also MPs who have come in close contracts with them and are waiting for their swab test results. The source who informed Utusan Malaysia elaborated,
“Also involved is the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd. Rashid Hasnon because his officer was positive.”
The five-day Special Meeting of the Third Term of the 14th Parliament is set to begin on Monday, July 26 until July 29 and August 2, 2021, for the Dewan Rakyat. With this sudden development, we are still waiting for information regarding the postponement of the meeting.
