As Malaysians, we love our curries, sambals and similar types of dishes because they just taste so freaking good and can be eaten with literally anything. Nasi lemak, nasi kandar, fried meehoon, and so much more! While most of us can take spicy food, some of us are just missing those essential heat-proof taste buds. So that we can spice up our life easily! Okay, sorry.
For people living in Kampar, they are able to enjoy a delicious and healthier dinner than the usual sinful nasi lemak choices thanks to the owner of this curry rice stall in a food court, Liu Yong Gui who cooks some of the most delicious curries, according to Sinchew.
The 53-year-old boss is well known for his curries, which are made with freshly-bought chicken every day as he refuses to sell any chicken curry left over from the day before. Mmm, chicken! Apparently, Liu gets up every morning to prepare his yummy dishes by going to buy chicken meat fresh from the supplier before cooking up a storm with his ingredients as he specialises in serving the dinner crowd.
It isn’t often that you will see a Chinese selling curry rice as the Indians and Malays are generally believed to be more adept at making the delicious dish, but Liu says that he learnt the craft from his neighbours who were from South India. They taught him the basics but soon, Liu began to experiment with his own blend of spices.
He began his business in 2009 and soon business was booming. When he moved to his new location inside the food court, he was kept constantly busy with the seemingly never ending flow of customers. However, that’s not all that is special about his food because the most amazing thing is that his curry isn’t spicy. Wait, what? Non-spicy curry?!
Yes, Liu says he tweaked his recipe to be non-spicy as he wanted his food to cater to everyone. Don’t worry if you like spicy food because the spiciness level of Liu’s curry can be adjusted to the level that you want, with some of his special chilli sauce.
Not only that, his curry rice is healthier than the regular ones you’ll find because he cooks his rice without oil; he also uses ginger and turmeric to make it aromatic. He reasons that since people only eat his food for dinner, he wanted them to eat a less greasy meal at night and the generous owner says that he doesn’t charge extra if a customer requests to add extra rice. Plus, a dish of the comforting and delicious rice will only set you back at approximately RM8.
Don’t know about you but I’m definitely visiting this stall for a mouthwatering meal when I’m in Kampar!
