A family in Kuala Terengganu were recently met with devastation after discovering their son had drowned in a bucket of water at their own home.
According to Berita Harian, the father of an 18-month-old toddler woke up at around 12pm yesterday afternoon (30th January) at his home and noticed that his son was missing. He then woke his wife up and both parents looked all over the house for their child.
A few minutes later at around 12.30pm, they were shocked to find their unconscious toddler with his head in a bucket full of water. He had already turned blue.
It is believed that the boy probably walked around the home and into the bathroom while everyone was asleep.
Fearing for his son’s life, he rushed the boy to a nearby clinic. However, the young boy was pronounced dead 50 minutes after receiving emergency treatment.
The child’s body was then sent to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for a post-mortem. The five-hour autopsy later confirmed that the 18-month-old died due to drowning.
According to Kuala Terengganu police chief Superintendent Suffian Sulaiman, the boy’s father, who works as a taxi driver, claimed that their bathroom door was actually broken, and their child would frequently walk into the bathroom before they fell asleep.
In light of this tragic death, the Kuala Terengganu police chief also advised parents to be aware of what their young children do at all times, and be sure that their children are always supervised especially if they walk into bathrooms.
Police have classified this case as sudden death.
Our condolences go out to this young boy’s family and hope they can find the strength to get through this difficult time. Meanwhile, parents, please be sure you keep a watchful eye on your kids!
